I think a lot of people land here and don’t know what this is.
Some probably think it’s something else entirely. I get it. The name doesn’t exactly help.
This blog is about my experience as a Filipino + American woman, first generation, going blonde and figuring out what that actually takes. Not just getting there, but maintaining it in a way that fits my life.
I don’t half step when it comes to my hair. If I’m going to be blonde, I’m going to maintain it properly. That doesn’t mean doing the most. It means knowing what actually matters and letting the rest go.
My hairdresser told me there aren’t many first person accounts of Asian women going blonde at the level of detail I care about. Most of what’s out there is a before and after.
This isn’t that.
I’m not a hairdresser. I just really like being blonde and Asian, and I care about doing it well.
I started this blog after a lot of loss. I lost both of my parents within six months. I stepped away from work and finally had the space to commit to something I had been thinking about for a long time.
So I did.
This blog is for women with dark hair who want to go blonde without a ton of heartache.
It’s also for women in that part of adulthood where things don’t look how they were supposed to. Maybe you’re not on a timeline. Maybe you’re not doing what everyone else is doing. I see you.
And if you feel like you have to do the most to feel your best, you don’t. Whatever you want to do is enough.
If you spend time here, you’ll get:
- what it actually takes to go blonde and maintain it
- products that work and what doesn’t
- clarity on things you’ve probably thought but haven’t said out loud
- a longer view of hair, not just quick transformations
- what medium maintenance actually looks like in real life
There will also be posts that are just me working through life as it’s happening. I’m not separating that from everything else.
You’ll also see touches of fashion, things I own on purpose, and the way I put myself together overall. Not as a separate category, just as part of how I live.
If you’re here for hair:
- how I figured out which hair ties actually hold my hair
- what I use from K18 and when I actually reach for it
- what my routine actually looks like day to day
If you’re here for how I think about things:
- what medium maintenance actually means for me
- the longer version of my blonde timeline
I only talk about things I actually use and have tested.
This is me solving problems I run into in real time. Things I’ve already thought about, but now I’m actually testing and saying out loud.
If something works, I’ll keep it. If it doesn’t, I won’t.
This will mostly be about hair, but skincare and makeup will show up too. Same rules. Medium maintenance, nothing excessive, just what actually holds up.
You’ll also see posts about fashion, things I own on purpose, and the way I put myself together overall. Crafting, DIY, and the more detailed process side of things live over on The Cute Effect.
If this feels like you, you’re in the right place.
