The Context
If you’re reading this, you’re probably wondering if K18’s AirWash is worth the investment. If that’s the case, please keep reading!
I was introduced to K18 by my hairdresser. K18 is one of those science-forward hair brands that doesn’t waste time with fluff. They focus on repairing hair from the inside out with their patented peptide technology, and honestly, their products feel way more intentional than your average salon line. They built their reputation on the now-famous K18 Hair Mask, but their whole lineup leans into helping damaged, color-treated, over-processed hair actually behave again.
After my hairdresser used the hair mask treatment on my hair, I was sold. I ordered a bottle and used it as needed. Generally, I would use it before a salon session and a couple days after my first wash post-bleaching. I really loved how this product didn’t require a strict routine. When I found out K18 expanded their product line to shampoos, conditioners, and other leave-in products, I went overboard and bought everything because I truly want to do a complete product line review for this blog and YouTube. Stay tuned.
This product review post is dedicated to my favorite product from K18: AirWash dry shampoo. I purchased this product myself from the K18 website after learning they were offering it and wanting to try it out. This review is based entirely on my personal experience using AirWash.

My History with Dry Shampoos
Before K18’s AirWash, I would classify myself as a “desperate” dry shampoo user. Meaning I would only use dry shampoo after partying for two days straight and needing to be at a baptism with no time to get it together. In general, I wash my hair (long, straight, thick, coarse) every two days, but sometimes I’ll disrupt that schedule. My hair is my favorite part of my beauty routine, but I’m also very medium maintenance. I care, but I’d rather sleep another hour than spend it styling my hair. It’s worked for me so far.
I’ve tried many dry shampoos. The ones currently living in the back of my cabinet are Batiste Original Dry Shampoo, Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo, and IGK First Class Dry Shampoo. I’ve tried many more, but I’ve passed them along to new homes. At this point, I just wanted to enjoy the convenience of dry shampoo like everyone else.
Most of the dry shampoos I’ve tried were aerosol. While I liked the even spray, I didn’t love the environmental impact, the heavy scents, or how they felt on my scalp. No matter the fragrance, they all had that same strong baby-powder dry shampoo smell. It was enough for me to either tolerate greasy roots or throw my hair into a bun.
Why AirWash Caught My Attention
I bought AirWash simply because K18 offered something beyond their hair mask. I wasn’t expecting much. I was hopeful K18 could turn something out. When it arrived, I was surprised to see it wasn’t aerosol at all. I genuinely didn’t understand how it was going to work.
Now that I’ve used it extensively, here’s what sets it apart:
- Biotechnology using K18’s odorBIND tech to trap and remove odor instead of masking it
- No propellants for a cleaner application and better air quality
- No white cast or chalky residue thanks to translucent mineral microbeads
- Gentler, scalp-friendly formula
- More environmentally conscious overall
The Scent
It does still have a dry shampoo smell, but it’s subtle and fades quickly. As someone who’s very sensitive to scent, this was a pleasant surprise. You barely notice it once it settles, which is rare for me. If you legit sniff the bottle it smells like fresh fIorals, maybe someone with baby powder ran by quickly and it was sunny outside.
Non-Aerosol Formula
This was my first experience with a non-aerosol dry shampoo, and it made me feel oddly responsible. More importantly, my scalp and roots actually feel refreshed instead of coated. It doesn’t feel like I’m layering product on top of product.
You also don’t need to spray a lot to get the desired effect. I will say I went rather light handed the first time I used it. I wanted to get a feel for AirWash before I went crazy. I never had to go crazy with the application, but I do use more than the first time I applied it.
Application Process Walkthrough
I genuinely laughed when I took the cap off because I had no idea what to expect. Since it’s not aerosol, the application feels different. It’s almost like misting your roots with water at first.
This is how I use it:
- I brush and part my hair (I didn’t brush well in the photo. . .)
- Shake the bottle like I’m about to do somethin’
- Spritz along the part from front to back
- Use my fingers to work it in
- Repeat on new sections

Within seconds, the oil on my roots disappears and my roots feel lighter and cleaner.
How K18 AirWash Performs
The oily root is gone almost immediately. There’s no visible residue on my scalp or hair. There is sometimes a bit of white powder around the nozzle, but it never transfers onto my hair. My hair gets a noticeable volume boost and stays fresh-looking throughout the day. It doesn’t feel freshly washed, but it does feel intentionally refreshed.
Why It’s Great for Color-Treated Hair
Using AirWash allows me to extend my wash schedule without feeling gross, which ultimately helps preserve my hair color. Washing less means less fading. Less fading inherently means less damage, and happier blonde hair overall.
Pros
Aroma: I don’t feel like I’m doused in baby powder
Non-aerosol format
Clean feel
Hair color longevity
Cons
Price point: $48 – That’s more than I spend to fill my gas tank up.
Availability: At times, certain products have been out of stock on their site.
The non-aerosol application takes time to get used to
Final Thoughts
At the end of the day, I don’t like feeling uncomfortable, I’m a bit lazy, and I want my hair to look and feel good without overthinking it. That’s why AirWash has earned the title of my favorite K18 product. I will absolutely repurchase it, because I haven’t found another dry shampoo that comes close. If you’re color-treated, low- to medium-maintenance, and picky about scent and buildup, this one is worth trying. If you’re interested in K18, check out what I have to say about K18 Hair Mask.
