I’m taking this experiment very seriously because anyone who experiences hair aches deserves answers. Lol. My last post sung the praises of Knekki hair ties. Now, I want to put similar hair ties head to head.
But for real, I took the time to figure out which hair ties work best for me and my hair situation. Two coil hair ties made the cut and rode around with me for a couple of months. Since Teleties and Invisibobble are similar, I thought it would be a good idea to put them head to head.
The criteria I’m using are a mix of obvious with a touch of obviously:
Hold: How well does this hair tie hold my hair?
Thick Hair: How well does this hair tie cope with thick hair?
Wrist Wear: Does this feel comfortable on my wrist?
Which One Annoyed Me Less: This is more of a vibe-based category.
The One I’d Actually Reach For: If I had to pick one, which one am I grabbing?
At the end of the day, one coil hair tie does reign supreme.
Hold
Both Teleties and Invisibobble held up my hair without needing constant readjustments.
I will say Invisibobble has a hold that practically announces itself the second you begin stretching it. Teleties holds just as well. However, when I first started stretching it, I genuinely did not think it was going to do the job.
Both perform well once they’re in my hair, but one definitely walks into the room shouting its credentials.
Winner: Invisibobble
Thick Hair
The reason I started looking into hair ties is mostly because of the thickness of my hair. Although this is a problem I welcome, most hair ties seem designed for people with hair somewhere in the middle.
I wanted to find something that would not just work, but actively support thick hair.
While wearing these hair ties, I did not get that annoying hair ache from either one. The Teletie is significantly easier to stretch, but once either of them is actually in my hair, I stop noticing them completely.
Because of that, I’m not willing to use stretchiness as part of my measurement for whether a hair tie works for thick hair.
Winner: Tie!
Wrist Wear
This is something no one should take for granted.
I have a hair tie on my person at least 95% of the time, and it usually lives on my wrist. The key word there is comfortably.
In the scope of this project, would a coil hair tie have been the first thing I guessed would be comfortable on my wrist? Absolutely not. Honestly, it kind of makes me feel like I manage a TJ Maxx or something.
At the end of the day, though, one is significantly more comfortable.
It’s clearly not this one.
Winner: Teleties
Which One Annoyed Me Less
If you’re reading this, I bet you did not expect annoyance level to be part of the rubric.
I’m including it because I think it contributes to my Medium Maintenance-ness.
I found both of these annoying. Not because of what they did, but because of what they make me do. I have to strategically hide them from my cat.
After she had emergency bowel obstruction surgery, the last thing I need is for her to chow down on a coil hair tie.
One of these is significantly louder and easier to find when it inevitably ends up somewhere it should not.
Winner: Teleties
The One I’d Actually Reach For
Between these two coil hair ties, I would reach for Teleties.
I think it’s important for a hair tie to do its job, but I also need to feel comfortable when I’m not wearing it. Ultimately, this came down to wrist wear for me.
Aside from that, Teleties come in so many fun colors that I could absolutely see people collecting them.
I am genuinely curious what Invisibobble fans do with them when they are not in their hair. I have relatively small wrists, and Invisibobble basically embedded itself into my skin.
After spending a decent amount of time with both of these hair ties, Teleties is the one I would choose.
Conclusion
Teleties wins for me because it annoyed me the least.
I still think both of these hair ties are a little weird because of their coiled nature. It’s just not what I’m used to. However, both were completely undetectable once they were actually in my hair.
I completely understand why people swear by Invisibobbles, but I’d also love to hand those same people a few Teleties and see what they think.
Putting these two hair ties head to head forced me to think much harder about my experience with each of them than I normally would have.
