Why I Finally Tried Teleties

I grew hip to Teleties because a friend of mine was really into Invisibobbles. I know you’re like, why aren’t you reviewing Invisibobble? Don’t worry, it’s coming.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t want to like these, but I was curious. My friend really liked her hair ties, but our hair types are very different. Also, it looks like one of those wrist keychains retail managers wear so they have all their keys with them. It’s giving old school telephone cord. The idea of putting that in my hair was not appealing.
When I started looking into alternatives, Teleties kept coming up as a front runner. At that point, it felt wrong not to try it. What’s the worst that could happen? I love them? So into the cart they went.
A Quick Look at the Brand
I don’t usually deep dive into a company unless I need to, but I did have one question for my Blonde Asian brain: did Teleties come first or Invisibobble?
The answer is Invisibobble.
I’m actually glad I didn’t know that before trying them, because it would’ve messed with how I judged the product.
Teleties is woman-owned and privately held. It’s always nice to see a smaller business grow the way they have.
What I Bought
I purchased my Teleties in the Large size in “Luxury Living.” I saw gold and was sold.
According to their site, Large is best for thicker, longer hair, which is me. The price was $9.99 for three, which is definitely more than what I used to spend on hair ties.
What I Thought Before Trying It
I really didn’t want to like this.
A coil? Plastic-looking? It’s kind of giving Fisher Price energy. I fully judged this before using it. I kept thinking, how is my hair not going to get tangled in this?
I knew I was judging it based on how it looked, but I did it anyway.
What I Found
Hold: Holy mother does it ever hold my hair up. I did not find myself doing the usual “tighten the ponytail” pull. I was completely shocked.
Tension: After pulling my hair into a ponytail, it stayed exactly where I wanted it. I expected it to slide or create weird lumps because it’s a coil, but it didn’t.
Loop Count: Three loops, just like the hair ties I’m about to throw away.
Weight Handling: I wasn’t expecting much when I held it in my hand. It felt like it could stretch out or not hold. Instead, it felt like nothing on my head in the best way. I wore it for eight hours with zero adjustments and no hair ache.
Durability: I don’t see these snapping easily. You’d have to actively try to break it. I’ve seen people say you can put them in warm water to shrink them back if they stretch, but after a month of regular use, I haven’t needed to do that.
Removal: I usually unwind one loop and slide it out. I did try just pulling it out once, and it didn’t take my hair with it. I still prefer unwinding it because I’m a baby and it feels safer.
Dent / Crease: No dent. No crease. I even slept in it and expected one, and it didn’t happen. That was a very pleasant surprise.
All-day Wear Comfort: This is one of the biggest wins. My ponytail stayed lifted, I didn’t have to adjust it, and I didn’t feel it in my hair at all.
Versatility: I bought the Large for ponytails, but now I want to try smaller sizes for other styles. I didn’t expect to branch out, but here we are.
Wrist Wear: You can wear the Large on your wrist like a normal hair tie, but I don’t love how it looks. It’s more practical than aesthetic. It’s not the most comfortable, but it’s doable.
Would I Reach for It Again: It made the cut. I actually want more of these, which is not something I thought I’d ever say about hair ties.
Other Things I Didn’t Expect
I wasn’t sure where to put this, but it’s worth mentioning.
I leave hair ties everywhere, but since I only had three of these, I was paying attention. At one point, my gold one went missing. I was annoyed until I heard my cat losing her mind somewhere in the house.
She was playing with it.
Now every once in a while, the house will be quiet and then you’ll hear a full paw attack. She loves these.
So if you have a cat, just know these might become a toy.
The Potential Negative
Because it’s a loop, there’s a small joining point where the plastic meets. That little nub can potentially catch your hair and cause a tug.
If you’re aware of it, you can avoid it. But it’s there.
Conclusion
I really didn’t expect this to work for me and it exceeded all my hopes.
After being let down by so many hair ties, I’ve gotten used to adjusting, re-tightening, and just accepting a certain level of discomfort. This didn’t require any of that. I put my hair up, and it stayed there. That alone puts it ahead of most of what I’ve used.
I had no idea what to expect. What I can say is I didn’t expect Teleties to be something I’d be reaching for.
I wouldn’t say this replaces every hair tie, but it definitely earns a permanent spot in my rotation. I’m already thinking about getting more, which tells me everything I need to know.
This gave me a good reference point for coil hair ties, which made testing the next one more interesting.
