There are times when you know you have a special event coming up. More often than not, you start thinking about what you’re going to wear. Once that’s settled, the next thing on my docket is my hair. What am I going to do with my hair?
Since I’m so Medium Maintenance, even though I’m high maintenance about my hair, I’m also a bit lazy about the process. If there are products that let me take five and still make my hair look the best it can, I’m going to use them.
Although these are K18 products I reach for when I know I need to look good, I’ve never used all of them at once. It really depends on what my hair is doing at the moment. I live somewhere with all four seasons, so honestly it’s kind of a crapshoot. Don’t think of this list as a strict system. It’s more of an event hair prep rotation. These are the K18 products I reach for most.
K18 Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo
This is the easiest one for me to use consistently. K18 Peptide Prep Detox Shampoo is a great clarifying reset for my hair. It gives me that squeaky clean feeling by removing buildup from both my hair and scalp.
This is basically sanding before you paint. It gives me a cleaner base to work with and helps my hair feel lighter and more stylable. Out of everything on this list, this is probably the product I use most often before an event. I’ll usually wash my hair either the night before or the day of.
K18 TripleBright Oxidation Defense Purple Shampoo
Sometimes when it gets humid, I notice shifts in my hair tone. Even though there were a few years where I completely stepped away from purple shampoo, K18 TripleBright Oxidation Defense Purple Shampoo is one I actually find manageable.
It gives me a pretty dramatic brightening effect in one use without making my hair feel horrible afterward. Brassiness is just part of life when you bleach your hair blonde, and this has become one of the easier ways for me to manage it. I’ll usually use this either the night before or the day of an event depending on how my wash schedule lines up.
K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask
This was the first K18 product I ever used. I was introduced to the K18 Leave-In Molecular Repair Hair Mask during a blonding appointment with my hairdresser.
The idea behind this product is that it helps repair your hair before you start throwing heat at it again. As someone who bleaches their hair and still styles it, that obviously appealed to me immediately. After I use the hair mask, it feels fresher, like it went on a vacation and got its groove back.
This is probably the hardest one for me to stay in rhythm with because I only use it monthly. Also, after conditioning my hair my entire life, remembering not to use conditioner afterward still feels deeply unnatural to me.
K18 Molecular Repair Hair Oil
Out of everything on this list, this is probably the K18 product I use most regularly outside of event prep. K18 Molecular Repair Hair Oil is one of the easiest ways to add polish and shine to my hair, especially when I’m wearing it down.
I’d consider this the only true styling product in this roundup. It’s less about repair for me and more about making my hair look finished. It also smells super yum, which never hurts the nose.
Conclusion
When I have an event coming up, at least one K18 product usually makes a cameo somewhere in the days leading up to it. As I get older, I really don’t want to put a ton of effort into looking presentable anymore. I still want my hair to look good, I just want the process to feel manageable.
Products like these help me redirect some of that effort somewhere else, like figuring out whether or not I actually liked the movie Interstellar.
